Created in February, 3,1976,from the old Eastern central  state under the military regime of General Murtala Mohammed. Imo state which is known as the  Eastern Heartland of all Igbo speaking states in Nigeria, not just  that it shares boundaries, with all South Eastern states, like Enugu,Anambra,Ebonyi and Abia, the state is as well seen as the central of all other South Eastern states.
Yesterday, the visit of IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to Imo state, which witnessed massive turn out of his loyalist, and Imolites, was one that I presume as a sending signal to Biafrains and  Imo state citizens, that Imo state is the “Land of the Rising Sun”, meaning it might turn out to be the state which will be considered as the capital of Biafra,if the agitation comes to reality.
Least we forget,it was in Imo state,(Ahiara Mbaise)in 30,May,1967,that Late Chukwuemeka Ojukwu, made his official address, known as “Ahiara Declaration” for the independence of Biafra as then governor of Eastern Nigerian. Furthermore it would interest you to note that since the inception of Kanu’s IPOB movement,it is only in Imo state, that they have not experienced hitches,or set backs, from security operatives.
Kanu, was so relaxed yesterday in the state while delivering  his speech, one was at the popular Govt House Okigwe road roundabout, and the other was at Warehouse roundabout, all in the capital city of Owerri. To be honest, the IPOB leader felt at home, more than his base in Afara community in Umuahia,Abia state.
He spoke on many issues, but the main is his steadfast utterance that “restructuring” will not work, except “Referendum” which he said is what Biafra agitation is all about,in addition maintained that there won’t be election in Anambra state,as Anambra will be used as the state to showcase the rejection of Nigeria as a country by Biafrains.
